Wabi Sabi

The first image I've taken that I tolerate it being blurry, maybe because it gives me this feeling of mystery.  "The woman who waits by the shore for her love to sail home." Kind of feeling.  Maybe I need to stop watching Film Noirs.  For full blog visit http://www.lindatranphoto.com/

Monochromatic life

For a long, long time. I could only dream in black and white.  It was very strange to hear of other people talking about the vibrancy of colors in their dreams.  There was this underground literature about dreams and how to translate your dreams vie the colors you saw.  I was jealous of this.  There were times I woke up before my alarm, I'd will myself back to sleep and force a color into it.  I got as far as a red clock or a green flower.  My dreams were never too exciting.

This irrational behavior also carried into my wake.  There are times now I look at something and all I see is monochrome.  To me, that is beautiful.  Monochrome allows one to really see the subject without distractions.  All you see, is light and dark.  The black and the white.

Coffee + Culture

Why I don’t drink coffee on my days off

I love sleeping in, I love the tired feeling of my body sinking back into my bed after I give my dog his morning walk.  I love waking up slowly, seeing out of the corner of my eye, light flickering into my window as the tree branches outside sways peacefully to the wind.   Circular shaped shadows cast on my wall, whispering for me to grab my camera to snap a photo.  I love all this.  The slow process of my late mornings when I have nothing better to do but to wake up. So who needs coffee on a morning like this?  If I'm not going to drink it, I might as well take a photo of it.

Strength + Beauty

I had this vision of a woman who was silent and strong. She was lonely but never alone. I was very inspired by the movie Maleficent. I liked her character. She sometimes loses her way and wanders off her path, yet in the end she always musters the courage to find herself again. Her strength is her beauty. This is the kind of woman I want to be.

Vines on Vinyl

I was very excited to work in tandem with Little Film Lab.  We hosted a San Francisco Film Shooters meet up.  The night before I was communicating with my fave florist.  We talked about flower crowns and bouquets.  But I wanted something more, something different.   As she and I kept talking I dreamed up the idea to decorate our lovely model with a living boa.  In total agreement she made me this gorgeous green boa.  Who wouldn't want to walk down the aisle with this magnificent ornament.   This resilient vine stayed fresh all day all night and our lead singer of Kiwitime rocked it well. Elegant, fresh and colorful it really punched up this simple pose.

Wind + Fog

There is a beautiful mystery to coast of San Francisco when the fog rolls in.  Its an ominous feeling that brews within me creativity.  My mind drifts and I am spirited away to a half dream-like state.  I am neither awake nor asleep.  But in this dream, it felt different.  It was more alive then the rest, because  indeed it had come alive to evolve into a conscious idea shared by two others who were very much awake. So together we put our passion to good use and organized a beautiful stylized shoot with a lovely and willing model.  Dress was provided for to by a wonderful designer in Hawaii.  Hair crown and bouquet fashioned by myself to accommodate our Trident-esq, nautical theme.  More photos are to come, but here are a few teasers.   I love instant film.  What you see is what you get.  It is simple as that.

Film has taught me many things.  The take away is that photographing with film can feel like a wedding affair every single time.  First, preparation is key.  You prepare as much as you can.  You have this vision of what the day is suppose to look like.  You get giddy at the thought of it.  But the day of comes, and plans shift, the weather gets moody and there is never enough hours in a day.  So like any good bride, I pray and let go of the things I can't control and just flow with the day.  I have to quickly learn to appreciate everything I have and work with it.  Like I said, film is a teacher, it has taught me that it can wow me beyond belief.  It has forced me to slow down and shoot with more purpose and forethought.  Here are a few shot taken with my friend Jeremiah's Hasselblad with Fuji 400h Film and developed at Little Film Lab.
